Hartford Running Back named All-State By: Eric Wade
At 6 feet-176 pounds, Hartford’s senior running back, George Allen, was named 1st Team All-State.
He was named 1st Team All-State by the Associated Press in 2008. Allen was very shocked by how this year’s season went because at the beginning of the year, Hartford was ranked 4th in the SAC preview, with Decatur, Water- vliet, and Marcellus ahead of them. Allen was also surprised when Hartford’s Athletic Director and head football coach Dave Janicki called George into his office and told Allen about his All-State Honors. “It took about three days for it to actually sink in that I was 1st Team All-State”.
Allen was extremely impressed with his offensive line. “The offensive line stepped up big time this year. It was like they were fighting for me to get All-State”, George said on November 20th at our interview.
Hartford lost to Constantine in the first round playoffs, 27-14. George was asked if their loss to Constantine spoiled the 9-0 regular season. George replied with, “Yes the loss to Constantine hurt, but a 9-0 regular season where you outscore your opponents 395-63 is a good season no matter what happens”. The loss to Constantine stings because Allen knows that he might never play football again, but what hurts the most is that he knows that he will never play with this group of guys again.
At the beginning of the season, Allen came up with some individual goals. The goals that he came up with were to get All-State, rush for over 1,000 yards, and most of all, he just wanted to win. Allen also came up with team goals, and the team goals were to win the SAC 3 years in a row, and win a couple of playoff games, but the main goal he wanted to reach this year is a goal at Hartford every year – WIN!!!!
